The Chef

Bart M. Vandaele studied in Bruges Belgium and held various Executive Chef positions in the United States and in Belgium. Most recently (2000-2003) Bart was the executive chef for the Dutch Ambassador to the United States, and from 1997 till 2000 he was the Executive Chef at the Residence of the Head of Delegation of the European Commission to the United States.

During that period Bart cooked for very prominent figures in the United States, such as Mrs. Hillary Clinton, H.E. Prins Willem-Alexander of The Netherlands, H.E. Blinken A., , Mr. Kofi Annan, Mr. R. Prodi, Mr. Valéry Giscard d’Estaing and many Senators, governors, ambassadors, lobbyists, etc.

Before he started his career as an executive chef in the US, he worked for years in the most exquisite Belgian restaurants. Early 1996 he was Sous-Chef de cuisine till 1997 at Restaurant Scholteshof. There he worked together with the very renowned Mr. Roger Souvereyns, Executive Chef and Owner, Rated 2 Michelin-Stars. Before joining Scholteshof, Bart gained his experience at Restaurant “Piet Huysentruyt”, Rated 1 Michelin-star where he was active from 1990 til 1996 as Chef de cuisine.

Even as a todler, Bart’s favorite playground was the kitchen. He litteraly grew up in the culinary business. With pots and pans as toys, he was raised in the kitchen of his family’s restaurant. So, as a young chef, his talents were clearly influenced by his surroundings.

Bart has been awarded the title of Rising Star by starchefs.com in 2006.

His cooking was reviewed in various Belgian and International newspapers, and he contributed to various cookbooks, such as:

  • The new generation: young chefs from Belgium;
  • Original restaurants: Jan Maesen;
  • Piet Huysentruyt: Eigentijds & Eigenzinnig;

Furthermore he participated in organizing and executing dinners & events for:

  • Antilio Basso, restaurant "L’Ecaille de Palais Royal" Brussels, Belgium, 2 Michelin stars;
  • Appeared on American Public Television in "Cooking in Europe" hosted by Pierre Franey and worked on pictures for the same book;
  • Helped to set up cooking classes and TV cookingshows for Chef "Piet Huysentuyt" Television Chef of the Belgium Commercial Television VTM;
  • Cooked on occasional events with star-Chefs as Michel Richard, Jean-Louis Palladin, Robert Widemyer, Todd Gray and various others.
  • Appeared on Belgian Television, where he was interviewed for the news edition.
